The Silhouette

What is a Palazzo?

A palazzo (ਪਲਾਜ਼ੋ) is a modern Punjabi silhouette of straight or slightly A-line wide-leg trousers, worn with a long kurti or a shorter cropped one. Where the gharara and sharara flare dramatically, the palazzo stays clean.

The palazzo entered Punjabi wardrobes in the 2000s as the everyday suit — for kitty parties, temple visits, small family gatherings, and modern working women. It does what a salwar does but sits softer against the leg.

At TEEYAN we cut the palazzo in cotton-silk for the day, or heavier silks for the evening. The line is quiet on purpose — one line of hand marori on the neckline, a soft dupatta, and no more. This is the suit for the woman who does not need to be loud.

Silhouette Guide

Palazzo vs Salwar vs Sharara

Palazzo

Wide-leg straight or slight A-line trousers. Clean, modern, quiet.

Salwar

Traditional gathered trousers, wide at the top and narrow at the ankle. The Punjabi everyday.

Sharara

Two flared trousers opening from the hip in one line. Heavier, more formal, cocktail-ready.

When to Wear

The Palazzo through the wedding week

Everyday · Working women

A cotton-silk palazzo in ivory, chalk, or pale blue moves through a work day and still looks bespoke.

Roka · Small family gatherings

Lighter silks in saffron, dusty rose, sage green. Half a suit's karigari, twice its wearability.

Mehndi day · Chunni Chadhai

For the woman who wants to move freely and eat without her waistband cutting in.

Reception for older women

Palazzo silhouettes flatter every body and every age — the mother of the bride can wear one and be photographed beautifully.

Common Questions

About the Palazzo

What is a palazzo suit?

A palazzo suit is a Punjabi and North Indian silhouette of wide-leg straight or slightly A-line trousers worn with a kurti and dupatta. Unlike a gharara or sharara, the palazzo has no dramatic bell — it stays clean from waist to ankle.

How is a palazzo different from a salwar?

A salwar is the traditional Punjabi gathered trouser — wide at the top, narrow at the ankle. A palazzo is wide the whole way down. The palazzo is modern, minimal, and easier for a working woman to wear.

Can a palazzo be worn for a wedding?

Yes — for softer occasions like the Roka, Chunni Chadhai, Mehndi day, or as reception wear for older women. It is not typically bridal — most Punjabi brides choose a lehenga, gharara, or bridal anarkali for the ceremony itself.

What fabric works for a palazzo?

Cotton-silk for day. Heavier silks (raw silk, dupion, satin silk) for evening. TEEYAN's Kora palazzo is cut in chalk cotton-silk — quiet, honest, sits softly against the leg.

What is the price of a TEEYAN palazzo suit?

Every TEEYAN palazzo is made to your measurements. Price is quoted on request over WhatsApp based on fabric, embroidery, and lining choices. Duties-paid delivery worldwide is included.

How long does a palazzo suit take?

Six to nine weeks depending on the embroidery. A minimal palazzo like Kora — one line of hand marori — is closer to six weeks. A more embroidered palazzo takes eight to nine.
