ਨੀਲ
'Indigo' — the traditional indigo-dyed khaddar cloth of Punjab, worn under the phulkari palla.

The Feel
Before you see it, you feel it.

Khaddar has a real hand — you can feel the weave. The phulkari palla is dense enough that it stands up on its own edge. This is the only suit in the house where you hear the cloth before you see it.

The Karigari
What the hand does.
  • The phulkari palla is worked from the reverse side of the khaddar — you never see the karigar's hand from the front, only the geometry of the finished stitch. This is the real chope method.
  • Pat silk floss in three tones of orange — solid on the front, revealing khaddar only where the geometry demands.
  • Kurta itself is left quiet — a single line of ivory kantha along the yoke, nothing more. The palla is the story.
Care
How she stays herself.
  • Never dry-clean the palla — the pat silk floss shrinks. Hand-wash in cold water with a mild pH-neutral soap. Roll in cotton towel to remove water. Air dry flat.
  • Store rolled around a mulmul tube, never folded.
  • Rest between wears — khaddar breathes best in the open.

Wear it with

This suit is at its best with almost no jewellery — just small studs, one thin gold bangle, a matte silver kara. The palla is worn baaga-style over one shoulder, not draped like a chunni. Juttis in phulkari colours — orange or mustard.

Why this one

"The suit for the woman who has read Amrita Pritam and wants to wear the truth of Punjab, not the memory of it. This is our most honest garment — one karigar, one palla, three months."
